Custom Cathedral-Style Interior Handrails – Sunridge

Project Overview

Custom handrails for a luxury residential home in Sunridge , adding safety and elegance to the indoor space

Location: Sunridge, Austin
Project Type: Residential
Scope: Handrails
Purpose: Enhancing safety and style for an indoor loft and sleeping area.

Project Details

For the Sunridge project in Austin, we built custom cathedral-style interior handrails using high-grade steel tubing. Each section was hand-cut, TIG welded, and powder-coated in a matte black finish at our northeast Austin shop. The design followed sharp, angular lines to match the home’s vaulted ceilings and modern interior layout. Fabrication took 4 days, including on-site templating and final fitting, with installation completed in a single day. The handrails were securely mounted using hidden anchors and custom-cut brackets, ensuring a clean, locked-in finish that feels structural and refined.

Challenges and Solutions

The angled walls and tall ceilings of the Sunridge home meant precision was everything. To get the geometry right, we templated the stair and balcony lines directly on-site, then brought those measurements back to the shop for custom fabrication. Because of the home’s sharp interior angles, we had to adjust several weld points mid-process to maintain clean continuity along the entire rail line. Final adjustments were made on location with portable tools to ensure seamless alignment with the staircase and upper landing.

Design Features

The Sunridge handrails feature a cathedral-inspired layout with bold vertical and diagonal elements. Powder-coated in matte black, the finish adds contrast and durability without pulling attention from the home’s architectural details. The steel tubing offers strength and clean visual lines, while the custom bracket system keeps the overall look minimal and precise. This project blends function, style, and structural integrity — built to match the home’s personality and last for years to come.

Collaborators

This was a fast-turnaround build, and we worked closely with the homeowners throughout the process to keep things moving smoothly. The design evolved quickly, which meant a lot of real-time adjustments and on-the-fly decisions during fabrication. Our in-house team stepped up—working long hours in the shop to hit the deadline without sacrificing quality. Their skill and commitment made it possible to deliver this custom handrail on time and exactly to spec.
