A custom steel bar support system for a luxury residential home in Austin’s South Manchaca neighborhood.
Location: South Manchaca, Austin
Project Type: Residential
Scope: Structural Support
Purpose: Supporting an open floor plan by removing interior walls between the kitchen and living room
We used commercial-grade steel for this project, fabricating the beams in our workshop over 4 days. Installation took 1.5 days, with on-site measurements ensuring perfect placement. The steel will be powder-coated once the structure is fully set for a polished finish.
The size and weight of the steel beams posed a challenge, requiring careful maneuvering. We used a crane and a full team to ensure precise and safe installation in the South Manchaca home.
The design features exposed beams to create a semi-industrial look, adding a modern edge to the home. The homeowner also requested flexibility, allowing future owners to cover the beams if desired.
We worked closely with 360 Construction on this project. Framers ensured structural alignment, while drywall and insulation teams coordinated placement. Plumbing and electrical teams also adjusted lines to fit around the support.
At 360 Metalwork and Fabrication, we’re passionate about making metal both beautiful and functional in Austin’s residential homes. The South Manchaca bar support project showcases this by delivering a robust structural solution that enables an open floor plan while adding a striking semi-industrial aesthetic with exposed beams. This combination of strength and style reflects our commitment to providing builders and architects with innovative design possibilities, transforming metal into a standout feature of any home.
